Underground or overhead
Most new runs go underground in conduit at the right depth, with marker tape above. It's safer and tidier than overhead cable, and it's out of the way of tractors and stock.
Distance changes everything
Long runs lose voltage. A shed 100 metres from the house needs much heavier cable than one beside it. Your electrician will size it for the distance and what you plan to run.
Its own sub-board
A shed or outbuilding with its own small switchboard and safety switch is safer and easier to manage than running everything off one long circuit.
Pumps
Bore and tank pumps need weatherproof connections and protection from water. A pump that trips the safety switch is a common call-out, and usually a sign of moisture getting in.
Plan for later
If you might add solar, a workshop or a granny flat, lay a larger conduit now. Pulling new cable later through an existing conduit costs far less than trenching again.
