Safety switch (RCD) testing for homes

Why test safety switches

A safety switch that's stuck or slow may not protect you when it matters. Pressing the test button every few months helps, but a proper test checks how fast it trips.

Landlords and property managers

For rental homes, regular checks of smoke alarms and safety switches are a simple way to keep tenants safe and keep your records in order.

Common questions

How often should safety switches be tested?

Press the test button yourself every few months. A full test by an electrician is a good idea every couple of years, or between tenancies.

My safety switch keeps tripping. Is it faulty?

Usually it's doing its job and an appliance or circuit has a fault. We find the cause rather than just replacing the switch.

Does every circuit need a safety switch?

Newer homes have them on power and lighting circuits. Older homes often don't, and adding them is one of the best safety upgrades you can make.

Need an electrician you can rely on?
